Meet the Women Leading the BSF Rafting Expedition on the Ganga

The BSF-NMCG All Women Rafting Expedition-2024 had a night halt in the city before they set out for Prayagraj from Boat Club on Tuesday. Jointly organized by Border Security Force (BSF) and National Mission for Clean Ganga, the expedition is a special campaign that would start from Gangotri (Uttarakhand) and end at Ganga Sagar (West Bengal). The expedition would thus cover 2,500 kilometers in 53 days. The women of the BSF are showing their prowess through rafting in white waters, with their motto: ‘Sashakt Mahila-Samraddh Rasthra’ and ‘Nirmal Ganga-Aviral Ganga’.

The contingent has arrived on 18th Nov at Boat Club and welcomed by chief development officer Diksha Jain, students of Radhey-Krishna Inter College, members of Namami Gange Samiti and local residents. The Ganga Task Force marks by giving the plant to commemorate their welcome. This afternoon, the expedition team visited Jugul Devi Inter College and held an awareness program on water pollution and its health effects.

BSF sub-inspector Priyanka expounded on the significance of and efforts in preservation of the Ganga, women empowerment, and environmental conservation. The participants took a vow to maintain the purity of the river. The Ganga Committee Task Course, Kanpur, had a very enriching exposition on the health impacts of water pollution. A ‘prabhat pheri’ from the Club to Ganga Barrage Ganga Stishti Ghat was held thereafter with the team, local educators, students, NCC, scout guides, NGOs and citizens, with a congregation of over 600 participants.

The squad was welcomed by the chief guest Additional Director General Police Commissioner (ADG) Akhil Kumar, along with some other dignitaries, who also presented the team with caps and mementos at the Boat Club. The chief guest applauded the expedition of the BSF Women Rafting Team and their Ganga cleanliness initiative; the river held immense importance in Indian history and cultural heritage before dispatching the rafts towards the next destination.
