DWP Benefits: Thousands of people living in Britain are going to get a very beneficial financial aid this summer. If you come under any benefit of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and especially live in Scotland, then an additional payment can come in your account this time.
Under this scheme, about 90,000 beneficiaries will be given a one-off assistance amount of more than £293. This amount will be given between 18 and 19 June.
But keep in mind, this facility will be available only to those who are either taking Carer Support Payment or are eligible for Carer’s Allowance and live in Scotland.
Let us know this entire scheme in detail – who will be eligible, when and how will the money be received and what things have to be kept in mind.
What is the purpose of this scheme?
Many people are engaged in caring for a member of their family. These people are called unpaid carers because they do not get any salary for this.
Sometimes this care is of elderly parents, sometimes of a disabled child, or of a seriously ill person.
To provide some financial relief to these unpaid carers, the Scottish Government runs this scheme, which is called Carer’s Support Allowance.
This amount is given twice a year so that these caregivers can also get some help in meeting their daily needs.
The Carers UK organization states that this year (from April 2025) a total of up to £587 per year will be given as assistance. This means about £293 at one time and a total of £587 twice a year.
Who will get this free payment of £293?
This payment will be given only to those people who fulfill two things:
- Live in Scotland.
- You’re receiving Carer Support Payment or Carer’s Allowance at any given date.
This means that the support is only available to residents of Scotland.
Also, you’ll only receive this payment if you’re officially enrolled on Carer Support Payment or Carer’s Allowance.
You won’t receive this payment if you only have an “underlying entitlement”.
Underlying entitlement means that you’re eligible for Carer’s Allowance but you’re currently receiving another major benefit (such as State Pension or Employment and Support Allowance) that doesn’t qualify you for Carer’s Allowance. In this case, you won’t be able to get this supplement.

You don’t need to apply for the payment
The best part is that you don’t need to apply for this payment. If you’re eligible and meet the conditions above, Social Security Scotland will automatically credit the money to your account.
You won’t need to fill in any forms or go into any offices.
When and how will you get the payment?
As mentioned, the first payment of this year will be made between 18 and 19 June. This amount will be deposited directly into your bank account.
If you have not received this payment by 30 June or have not received a letter, you can call Social Security Scotland toll free on 0800 182 2222.
What is the eligibility?
To get money under this scheme, you must meet these conditions:
- You must be 16 years of age or older.
- You must normally live in Scotland.
- You must spend at least 35 hours per week caring for someone who receives certain disability benefits.
- Your earnings must not exceed £196 per week, i.e. £10,912 per year.
Understand with an example
Suppose Mrs Anna lives in Glasgow, Scotland. She takes care of her husband, who is on disability benefits.
Mrs Anna spends about 40 hours every week caring for her husband. Her income is £180 per week.
In such a situation, she is eligible for Carer Support Payment. Therefore, she will receive a lump sum of £293 in her bank account this June.

Why is this help important?
The Scottish Government says that unpaid carers often face financial difficulties because they spend many hours caring for someone.
Due to this, they are usually unable to do regular jobs or work part-time.
In such a situation, this Carer Support Allowance works as a relief for them so that:
- They can meet their expenses,
- Buy things needed for care,
- And improve their financial situation a little.
What to keep in mind?
- Check your eligibility.
- Keep your bank details updated with Social Security Scotland.
- If you don’t receive your payment by 30 June, contact the helpline.
- Beware of any fake messages or emails. You will receive this money automatically without any application.
Conclusion
Thousands of unpaid carers in Scotland are going to get some good news this summer. If you are receiving Carer Support Payment or Carer’s Allowance, you will get this help of £293.
The government aims to provide financial help to those who are serving their family members.
